Want to Be Healthier and Happier? Try These Habits Everyday

All of us want to be healthy. In fact, we make sure to include losing weight or living healthy as one of our New Year’s resolutions. We want to start our year right by becoming healthy and fit not only physically, but also mentally, and emotionally.
And yet we find ourselves having a hard time staying healthy. After a few months, we go back to our unhealthy lifestyle of eating processed foods, drinking, and sleeping late at night due to our busy schedule. How can we make little changes that we can stick to it in a long term basis? The experts recommend you apply these little healthy habits in your routine.
Add More Steps To Your Day

According to Gulati, the key to keeping your body healthy is to be active and busy as much as possible
You probably heard that you needed at least 10,000 daily steps to be healthy and active. Reaching that amount of steps every day can be daunting if you think of the numbers closely. However, the CardioSmart editor in chief Martha Gulati, MD, said that you achieve this by changing your routine.
For example, get off from the bus or subway station at least one stop or block earlier from your destination so that you can walk more distance. Instead of taking up the elevator, walk on the stairs and deliver your message in person rather than chatting or calling them.
In this way, you’ll have an excuse to stand and get up as often as possible. Have a car? No problem. Simply park it at the end of your office parking lot so you’ll have more distance to walk.
Have Some Alone Time For 5 Minutes
According to the yoga instructor Alison O’Connor, we must spend some alone time every day to take a break from social media, entertainment, work, and anyone or anything who needs your immediate attention.
This is so your body and mind can rest. Having some alone time also gives you an opportunity to focus on yourself and your needs. It’s good for the soul to make yourself a priority once in a while.

Julie Fishkin, a Brooklyn-based nutritionist, says lack of sleep can lead you succumbing to sugar cravings, which leads to overeating and weight gain
Have a Restful Sleep
Most of us take sleep for granted. We tend to stay late at night, whether it be in trying to beat the deadlines of our project or work or studying for an incoming test. We only get 2-4 hours of sleep every day and wake up early in the morning to start our busy day.
What you don’t realize is that sleep is vital for your overall health and well-being. According to O’Connor, sleeping helps your body recover and heal itself so it’ll be in its optimum health as you start your day. It’s recommended that you sleep at least 7-8 hours to regulate your stress hormones and help stave off depression.
Stay Hydrated
Most of us don’t like to drink water due to its bland taste. We prefer drinking other beverages like soda, juice, energy drinks, and even alcohol since it tastes sweet to our buds. Not only do these drinks cause a spike in your blood sugar, but it’s also dehydrating.
That’s why O’Connor encourages people to keep a water bottle with them at all times to practice drinking water. You can just go for a refill if your bottle is already empty. O’Connor emphasizes that maintaining your daily water intake helps to flush out the toxins in your body, maintain healthy bowel movement, and keeps your muscles from getting fatigued. Not only that, but you get to save money too!
Take a Deep Breath
Does your body feel tense? Is your head throbbing painfully because of overthinking? Do your eyes feel tired from staring at the computer for so long? If that’s the case, O’Connor recommends you take a break and pause whatever you’re doing.
Find a quiet place and close your eyes to focus on deep breathing. Deep breathing can help relieve the stress in your body while allowing the positive energy to fill your body. It’ll help you cope with stress better than wallowing in negative energy.
